FAQ

1. What massage is about?

Massage uses mechanical stimulation such as pressure or stroking, in order to act upon the body and induce or stimulate physiological responses. The operating mechanism of massage is quite complicated, but it can be divided to the local and the central (general) mechanism, which actually plays more important role. Therapist by using various techniques, such as stroking, rubbing, kneading or patting, locally enhances the movement of fluids through the vascular system, increasing blood flow to the muscle, speeding up the delivery of nutrients and at the same time expelling the waste products. During the massage the brain is stimulated, too, and the stimulation of the cerebral cortex results in faster and more efficient execution of activities by executive organs.

2. What is the main purpose of the massage?

The purpose of massage is the activation and stimulation of the muscles, tendons, joint capsules, periosteum, bones, skin, the connective tissue, adipose tissue and the nerve endings in the skin. Indirectly massage also works on internal organs. It affects the following tissues and systems: the skin tissue and muscle, joints and ligament, circulatory, lymphatic, nervous, respiratory, digestive, excretory systems and metabolism.

3. What is the difference between massage and massage therapy?

Many people see a masseur as a person who has to perform a certain type of work with the physical body: skin, muscles and joints, and that?s it. And, yes, in fact, the classical view of massage is just only about it. And yes, in many cases, it is very helpful and valuable.

However massage therapy is more about holistic approach to individuals. There are many different therapies which through the work on the physical body allows for active release and transformation of energy. Massage treatment can be an amazing tool to work simultaneously on several levels: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The very act of massage as a physical touch is a material manifestation of what occurs in the energy and vice versa. Everything is energy and affects everything around, causing certain effects. And so through the physical body we can cause a certain energy reaction at the level of subtle bodies. These kinds of treatments can be used as another tool to work on your personal and spiritual development. So massage can become something more than a mechanical intervention in the body and its muscles. It can transform into physical and energy therapy, in which the body work is just a tool to release the old and no longer needed locks and patterns. For this reason it is worth to try something more, and allow yourself for massage therapy; therapy that releases and renews us, our body, our mind and emotions. As a result, we become better, healthier versions of ourselves.

4. What is the purpose of massage therapy?

Through active influence on one thing, we influence passively another one. If we use this relation to our advantage, we can achieve great results in all therapies. Some of them are the old ones brought back again to the light. Some are entirely new, coming from intuitive inspiration, and others arise as a combination of various other methods. Those therapies may be based on different foundations and tools but in fact, they are all about the same thing.  The purpose of massage therapy is not only to bring physical comfort to the muscles and other body tissues, but mostly bring the balance between mind, emotions and spirit. Many different cultures have discovered that through the pressure of certain points, we are able to trigger stagnant energy and therefore release old patterns. This way we are letting the physical body as the all subtle bodies for regeneration and transformation. From this point of view the touch becomes a tool for deep emotional work and renewal. It turns out that by deep tissue work we can achieve great support for the emotional ? mental ? spiritual development of individual.

The whole point of the holistic therapy is to experience, in a quiet, warm and friendly atmosphere, the miracle of relaxation, meditation and forgiveness, which makes the healing. The therapist is here for you to support you throughout the whole process, which you have chosen for yourself and willingly and consciously want to experience it in the here and now. Each session of the therapy is a new amazing phenomenon, sacred union, and work between the souls of the receiver and the helper and also the entire universe.

Why there is no two same sessions of therapy?

It is important to realize that even the same style of massage can consequently be represented differently by each of the therapist. Each therapist through his own practice and vision of the world, in time develop his own ways and techniques and finally creates his own and unique brand. The personal style comes from personality of each therapist, his way of living, thinking and being. Just as each of us has a different handwriting, so each will be slightly differently performing the therapy. The next reason for which there cannot be two same therapies, are individual needs of a receiver, who is changing and shifting all the time. Even after a week break you will experience therapy differently, because you are not the same anymore. Thus, in addition to the diversity of types of therapies, we have the choice of their styles of performance. This allows each of us – customers have a unique opportunity to find such style and its performance that fully meets our personal needs and preferences.

5. How to choose the best therapist for yourself?

In choosing a therapist for you is always worth to follow your intuition and heart. The one with who you feel safe and to whom you trust is best choice. These two factors are often the most important as they allow for complete rest and relaxation, which leads easily to openness and letting go. Thus in choosing your therapist always follow your personal feelings. It is worth to make sure that you are going to feel understood, in safe and comfortable atmosphere.

6. Does the life style of the therapist matter at all?

Many people think that the private life style of the therapist has no effect on the receiver. Unfortunately this is a misconception. As I mentioned above, everything is energy, and we as energy beings affect one another on subtle levels, just by having any interaction. So, regardless of whether we like it or not, while having direct physical contact, we are having interaction, which is enough to share and exchange the energy between each other. Therefore, contrary to popular belief, it is extremely important to become a conscious therapist to understand how energy works and how to protect yourself and your clients from mutual energy exchange. It is also quite important that the therapist is able to work with the energy on different levels, clearing blockages and thus speeding up the whole process of letting go and helping you to get the balance, harmony and health back.
What you might not realize, that to achieve this, the therapist have to maintain certain style of life. Speaking shortly; the more he cares about his body and energy the better for him and his clients. And taking care includes activities like meditation, sports, healthy diet, relaxations, prayers, positive thinking, opened mind and heart just to name few.

Therefore, if you are looking for a therapist for you, take a close look at whom you are going to entrust your own body and energy. Your body is your treasure and the temple of your soul. Treat yourself well and get the best massage therapist only you can imagine. Let it be someone with whom you feel peaceful, safe and harmonious, so that your co-operation brings you as best results as possible.

7. What is the task of the therapist?

Yes, the main therapist?s task is work with the physical body and therefore makes a positive impact on muscles, tendons, skin, and blood circulation and so on. But not least important is to listen to the receiver bodies (physical and subtle ones) fallow the energy and find blockages which keep the individual from experiencing full balance and harmony. Then using all the knowledge, experience, wisdom and intuition to work on those weakened spots; reach the deep layers of the body as the human being as well. By using different massage techniques bringing these blockages to a slow dissolve, which may bring back some old memories and/or emotions and/or old thoughts, thinking patterns or made decisions.
The task of the therapist is to extract the hidden locks and emotions, bring them back to the light, so the individual could face them one more time, and in safe and friendly environment release it for good. At this point the therapist becomes a quiet, supportive guide and witness in one.

8. Is massage therapy  so expensive, that only the rich can afford it?

Massage therapy average cost is about ?60 per hour. Many therapists, however, may offer better pricing or discounted packages for regular customers. Or, you might look for a great massage therapy school that provides a student clinic, where well-trained, supervised students provide treatments at discounted prices. Regular massage therapy gives you energy and vitality. Therefore might save your money for doctors or medications. Consider then is it worth the price.

9. Do I have to be undressed to get a massage therapy?

It’s entirely up to you how much (or how little) clothing you want to remove for a massage – although tight-fitting clothing may get in the way of the treatment. Some people prefer to keep their undergarments on during a massage, while others are more comfortable completely undressed. And some treatments such as chair massage, sports, shiatsu and acupressure are usually practiced with clothes on. Whatever you decide, your therapist will make every effort to ensure you are comfortable and not embarrassed. He or she will leave the room while you disrobe or dress, will knock before entering the treatment room, and will use the sheets and draping techniques to ensure you’re properly covered at all times and only the area being worked on is exposed.

For some therapies like Lomi Lomi Nui, it is advisable to completely undress, but if this is an issue and limitation, you should keep the underwear on. In fact it is better to keep your underwear on than feel stressed all the time of treatment. Before you decide what to choose, remember that undergarments probably will get greasy, which can later be difficult to remove. Also note that no matter what you decide, your private parts are going to be always safely covered (!)

Your safety and comfort is always most important and a good therapist always take care of it in the first place.

10. Does massage therapy has to hurt to be effective.

Massage therapy does not have to be painful. While some people may favour deep tissue massage that can create some discomfort during the massage, usually therapists pay much attention to ensure their clients are not uncomfortable. He or she will ask if the pressure is too deep or if the treatment is uncomfortable. And if a therapist doesn’t ask, speak up and tell her what you’re feeling.

11. Why it hurts?

There may be many reasons for appearing the pain. Some of them surely is directly related to the depth of oppression (depends on the type of body work), but also the poisoning your body with toxins, old injuries, aches and pains kept in the body for a long time, insufficient amounts of water, different types of sludge and deposits, past and current use of medications, drugs, alcohol, muscles tension, stress, and these are only few examples.

It should always be remembered that the procedure is not intended to hurt anyone! However, some actually experience muscle tightness as difficult or unpleasant experience. If the pain becomes too hard to bear, you should always talk to your therapist about this, and the therapist will adjust the pressure for you. But we try to work deep that even the old lock had a chance to be finally released. During the whole process of going through this experience, the therapist supports you, knowing that after work you will have much more freedom in the movements, you will feel lighter and happier.

12. Do you experience a lot of pain during the session?

This is a very personal matter which depends on many factors. The worse shape your body is, the more we can experience pain during the procedure. Deep massage like Romi Romi, Lomi Lomi or HBT  might be painful sometimes, but to make the whole experience easier, therapist massages very slowly and carefully, giving the receiver time to prepare for the adoption of deep oppression. It is also recommended to breathe deeply and relax the body and mind. What I have learned over time, is that the more impurities (emotional, physical, mental) in the body, the more pain we might experience.

13. How to deal with emerging pain?

Please note! It is not the purpose of treatment to cause the pain, but to obtain the release the blockages or other disturbances. Thus, information about pain only shows us that this spot is blocked in our body, and now we should work over it, in order to completely release it.

One of the best ways to help with these symptoms is calm, deep breathing. Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth. Once – it directs part of your attention to the breathing process, two ? actually oxygenates the tissues and helps them to relax.
Another good way of letting go is by loudly expressing your emotions flowing through you while the treatment and the experience of the pain. Whatever shows up is always connected to the primary reason of the disturbance in the flow of the energy.

That is the essence of therapy, finding these “difficult” places, getting to primary emotions, bringing them on top and in a safe and warm atmosphere to express them, and consciously let them go.

So actually, yes, sometimes session can be perceived as painful or difficult, but the fact that we have found and reach the old lock, opens the possibility of full healing. The result is a complete peace of mind and true rest.

14. Are there any specific places that are more painful than others?

Yes, calf. In 95% of the people are very sensitive. Deep pressure at this point can be very painful. Calves are saying about our personal relationships, especially those that we have with our parents.

Inner thighs up to the groin can also be very painful for men and women. Most of this area is very sensitive and it says about previous relationships (usually sexual) and not letting those go before starting the next relationship.

The abdomen is the seat of all emotions. Internal organs are massaged to remove sludge and deposits, creating a higher blood flow.

Shoulders. It is a place where you can find most of nodes in the body, so we work deep to solve them.

15. How long is a session?

The length of the treatment depends on the style and type of it. Ask your therapist while making the appointment. Most of the body therapies last an hour or more.

Regardless, remember to come about 10 minutes earlier to give yourself time to calm down and fill the forms if required.
